Veeam offers "commitment" licensing

Cloud providers could save up to 30 percent, claims Pommier.

March 20, 2013 -- Virtualisation backup specialist Veeam Software has announced a new rental licensing model which it claims will allow committed partners to become more profitable.

According to Gilles Pommier, Veeam’s channel director for EMEA (pictured), the new model “increases the flexibility of hosting and cloud service providers when designing their range of services, and enables them to reduce the cost of fixed assets even further.”

Previously, Veeam only offered a ‘per usage’ rental model to its channel without any longer term commitment from its cloud provider partners. The new model will add to the usage model within a longer term contract. “It is the same as what you can have for your cell phone; the more you commit the less you pay,” explains Pommier.

According to Pommier, different levels of commitment will also gain additional discounts, with a cloud provider able to earn an additional 30 percent discount for an “advanced” level of commitment. The new model will be open to the 1200 cloud providers within the firm’s community of 9000 registered partners.

Veeam has experienced massive growth in its channel, which has mirrored the rise of virtualised infrastructure. According to data from the firm, virtual infrastructure accounts for 51 percent of enterprise servers, with this expected to grow to 63 percent in 2014.

In a recent survey, Veeam found that CIOs are not blind to the data protection issues that growing virtual infrastructures present. 88 percent identified capability challenges affecting their ability to backup and recover virtual servers, while 84 percent recognised complexity challenges, and 87 percent cost issues.
